Mad Max: Fury Road grossed $375 million worldwide, against a production budget of $150 million. It received positive reviews and was named one of the best action films of the 2010s by many critics, and it won multiple critical and guild awards. The film was also hailed as a return to form for Miller who had not directed a major feature film since 2003's Happy Feet Two. At the time of its release, Mad Max: Fury Road was the highest-grossing post-apocalyptic film ever made (a title it held until 2018 when it was surpassed by Maze Runner: The Death Cure), and is currently Miller's highest-grossing film to date. It received ten Academy Award nominations including Best Picture and Best Director for George Miller, with the latter winning at 88th Academy Awards.
